An ultrasonic open channel flowmeter is a type of flowmeter used to measure the flow rate of liquid in an open channel, such as a river, canal, or sewer. It utilizes ultrasonic technology to measure the velocity of the liquid by emitting ultrasonic waves and measuring the time it takes for the waves to travel between two points in the channel.
The flowmeter typically consists of a sensor/transducer that is mounted above the channel and directed towards the liquid flow. The transducer emits ultrasonic waves towards the liquid surface and measures the time it takes for the waves to be reflected back to the transducer. By comparing the time of flight of the waves, the flowmeter can calculate the velocity of the liquid.
In addition to measuring the velocity, the flowmeter also requires the measurement of the liquid level in the channel to calculate the flow rate. This can be done using a separate level sensor or by utilizing the same ultrasonic transducer to measure the distance from the sensor to the liquid surface.

The main component of ultrasonic open channel flowmeter is Parshall Flume(also known as Par's flume), which is used as the auxiliary equipment for the flow measurement of open channel.
When the instrument is working, the sensor does not contact with the measured fluid, so as to avoid the contamination and corrosion by the sewage in the channel.
It has higher reliability to measure the amount of sewage compared with other forms instruments.
The instrument is equipped with RS232 serial interface, which can be connected to a computer or other data collector, and it can also be connected to a modem or wireless communication module to achieve wired or wireless remote communication.
